Central League Saturday Cup Final at St Helens 3/8/06 Dunvant v Grovesend Miners
With Owen Lewis, Chris Bridle, Ian Thompson
unavailable and Ceri Phillips playing with a
calf injury it was up to the normal middle order
to take up the challenge and this they did with
some style.
Dunvant opened with the stylish Michael Arnold
30 and the in form Dicky Lewis 48, John Arnold
36 at No 3, a quickfire 13 off 5 balls from Mark
Stock and 10 for Ralph Richards.Setting a target
of 148 off 16 overs.
Grovesend struggled to reach 74 all out with
only Jamie Whitton 33 reaching double figures.
This was due to some athletic and very
professional fielding and very accurate bowling
from Wayne Tucker 3 for 8, Ralph Richards 3 for
25, Lee Tucker 2 for 16 and 1 for 19 for Tim
Rees.
Well done lads, this is the first time we have
won this trophy lets hope we can do it again.
Dunvant v Bryn 5/8/06
Dunvant batted first and scored 239 for 5.
An aggressive 53 for Owen Lewis just back from
holiday, 30 for Ceri Phillips, and yes its that man
again Dicky Lewis 74 no with two sixes, what a
season he is having. A quickfire 16 from Mark Stock
and a terrific 42 no from the irrepressible Lee
Tucker.
In reply Bryn reached 162 with J Parker 40 and R
McCartney 37no the main run getters.
The consistant Ralph Richards getting 4 for 16, Dai
Howell 3 for 30, 2 for 25 for Lee Tucker and 1 for
28 for Wayne Tucker.
Dunvant 2nds V Penlan 5/8/06
Dunvant were put into bat by Penlan and scored 99
for 9.
Due to a very good bowling attack only John Arnold
17, Peter Kelleher 15 and Richard Dunne 13 reached
double figs.
Penlan reached their target for the loss of 5
wickets. Johnny Jones, Gareth Hewitt did well with
the ball and John Arnold getting so much swing he
was nearly unplayable
Dunvant 1st XI v Northend/Saints 22/7/06
This was a top of the table clash and if we lose
this one Northend /Saints will have a big lead at
the top of the table over everybody. Northend/Saints
batted first with R Collins 10, M Gaggin 36 and T
Copp 20 setting a big run rate and were on for a big
score but thanks to some fine bowling from Lee
Tucker 3 for 27, Wayne Tucker 2 for 36, Ralph
Richards 2 for 23 and 1 for 15 from Lee Copner they
were restricted to 126 all out. In reply
Dunvant reached the target for the lose of one
wicket. The in form Ian Thompson 66no, Dicky Lewis
10 and the stylish Michael Arnold 41no.Theres only 5
points separating the top three clubs, so its game
on.
Dunvant 2nd XI v Man Cong 22/7/06
Man Cong chasing promotion this year were always
going to be hard to beat.
Man Cong batted first and scored 198 all out. M
Coady 59,P Evans 38 and M Martin 48 the main run
getters. Dunvant bowlers did well to get Man Cong
all out thanks to Malcom Ware 4 for 35, Dai Howell 3
for 36 and one each fir Ben Smith, Jeff Kemp and
Johnny Jones. In reply Dunvant were 95 all out
with only Richard Dunne 17 and Dai Howell 16no
getting into double figures.
Dunvant v Tower Sat Cup Semi Final
Tower batted first and were dismissed for 73 .
Thanks to some fine bowling from Dunvant.
Dunvant reached their target with Ian Thompson 16,
Dicky Lewis 17, Ralph Richards 20no and Lee Tucker
12no. A great show considering so many stars were
unavailable. The final is next week.
The final is at St Helens this Thursday 5.15pm v
Grovesend Miners
Dunvant 1st XI v Betws 15/7/06
With about 12 players missing from the squad we just
about managed to get one team together. Luckily we
only had one fixture to fulfill as the 2nds did'nt
have a game.
Dunvant batted first and reached 202 for 5, thanks
to a fine knock of 105 from Ian Thompson.It was only
the 3rd time he has batted this year and was an
innings of patience and concentration. He was backed
up by Ceri Phillips 25 and Chris Bridle 26.
In reply Betws who were also missing a lot of
players reached 158 all out. At one stage it looked
like they would reach their target but some fine
bowling from Tim Rees 3 for 32, Dai Howell 4 for 33,
Mark Stock 1 for 38 and Jeff Kemp 1 for 29. The
second team players who filled in contributed to the
result with 4 catches in the filled. 2 for Peter
Kelleher,1for Malcolm Ware and 1 for Mark Stock.
Dunvant 2nds v Rhydaman 8/7/06
Rhydaman batted first and reached 139 all out. M
Jones 47, G Harrison 29 and C Kirby 25.
The wicket takers for Dunvant were evergreen
Chris Arnold 3 for 23, Mark Stock 3 for 23, John
Arnold 2 for 14 and 1 each for Malcom Ware and
Johnny Jones(his first for the club).
In reply Dunvant reached their target for the
loss of 3 wickets. Dicky Lewis 38, John Arnold
47no and Jeff Kemp 12no
Dunvant 1st XI 101 for 1 beat Penllergaer 100 all out 8/7/06
Penllergaer batted first and were
dismissed for 100 all out. Only D Inson
and N Garnett reached double figures,
both getting 26. This was due to some
fine bowling from Lee Tucker getting 2
for 9 in 8 overs, Dai Howell 3 for 26 in
5 overs, Tim Rees 3 for 21 in 6 overs,
Wayne Tucker also getting a wicket.
In reply Dunvant were 101 for 1. The
consistant Ceri Phillips 39no and
captain Chris Bridle 41no with Michael
Arnold 9
Dunvant 2nd XI 151 all out lost to Manselton Cong 286 for 5
Man Cong batted first and reached a big total of 286 for
5. The talented N Dalton reaching 97 before getting caught
near the boundary by Jorden Jackson.J Coady(21), M Coady(18)
and an aggressive knock by R Evans(77no) and A Evans (23no).
The Dunvant bowlers worked hard in very hot conditions with
Richard Vaughan getting 2 for 59, with 1 each for Dicky
Lewis, Malcom Ware and Rob Dupplau who also took a good
catch in the field.
In reply Dunvant had a good start with Dicky Lewis(30)
and Mark Roberts(53no) who carried his bat and held
the team together. He is enjoying his spell with the 2nds
and is proving his worth not only as a batsman but also a
bowler.Mitchel Ford added a quick and aggressive 19
before being run out, Jorden Jackson 4 who decided to
hide the wickets from the bowler by having his body and pads
in front of the wickets( He was out LBW), Johnny Jones 4,
Jeff Kemp 2, Peter Kelleher 5, Rob Dupplau 1 and a fine
knock from No 11 bat Malcom Ware 15 which took our total to
151 all out
Dunvant 1st XI 227 for 6 beat Malsters 120 for 6
Dunvant batted first and the openers
Owen Lewis(20) and Ceri Phillips(51)
gave the club a good start. Captain
Chris Bridle chipped in with 13, the
stylish Michael Arnold 19 and then a
controlled innings of measured
aggression from Ian Thompson 46no (thats
how he described his innings) partnered
by the reliable Ralph Richards 31,
Daniel Merchant 15, Tim Rees no1 took
the total to 227 for 6.
Malsters reached 120 for 6 with only
J Jones 43no and T Matthews 18 reaching
double figures.

Dunvant Ist XI 170 for 7 beat Tower 169 all out
Tower batted first with the prolific Phil Bendle opening who
went on to get 67 with Mike Durke 56 set Tower up for a
really big score.At one stage they were 130 for 1 with
plenty of overs in hand.Captain Chris Bridle tried a change
of bowlers bringing on Tim Rees and Ian Gurney and things
began to go in our favour and Tower only managed to get to
169 all out.
Lee Tucker getting 4 for 32, Ian Gurney 3 for 25 with 1 each for
Wayne Tucker and Tim Rees.
In reply Dunvant reached their target for the loss of 7 wickets.
Owen Lewis 14, Ceri Phillips 29, Chris Bridle 4, Michael Arnold
23, Ian Thompson 39no,a blob for Ralphy, Tim Rees 15, Simon
Parfitt 15 and wayne Tucker 4 no. A good display of strength in
depth batting. A very good win well done lads.
No game for the 2nds Coopers could not raise a side again and
have been chucked out of the league.
Dunvant 1st XI 106 for 4 beat Bryn 104 all out (03/06/06) The Ist team are thankfully back to their winning ways. They won against a confident Bryn who had all their best players out and they fancied their chances.
Bryn scored 105 all out with only Justin Thomas getting into the
twenties(25). The dangerous Rob Thomas being run out for 15.Wayne
Tucker getting 3 for 23, brother Lee 2 for 21,Ralph Richards 2 for
16, Dai Howell and Ian Gurney getting one each.
In reply Dunvant reached their target of 106 for the loss of 4
wickets. Ceri Phillips 21 and Michael Arnold 48no this after his
fine 80 last week. Well done.
Daniel Merchant did well with 8no giving good support to Michael.
Dunvant 2nd XI 78 for 1 beat Rhydamen 77 all out (03/06/06) Another win for the seconds this time against Rhydaman.
Rhydaman were 77 all out after being 74 for 4. Due to a fine
bowling display from Mark Roberts 5 for 17 and captain Mark
Stock 4 for 9.
In reply Dunvant were 78 for 1.
Mark Roberts once again featured with 27no and a cultured
innings from Lee Copner 33.
It looks like we are staying top of div 2
Grovesend Miners v Dunvant First XI 29/4/06
With the rugby having a vital game at Loughor and the Swans
playing home and holidays we were a bit short of players and only
managed to get 10. Still it was more or less the same for all teams.
The overlap with football and rugby seems to get worse every year.
Dunvant batted first and scored 109 all out. Owen Lewis opened and
got to 16 quickly and was bowled playing a rash shot. Chris Bridle
looked good but was caught on the boundary having scored 21.Ralphy
steadied the ship with a patient 26 and was bowled trying to
accelerate the score. Nobody else reached double figures.
Grovesend reached their target in 29 overs for the loss of 4
wickets. Richard Pass 23 and Jamie Whitten 31* were the main run
getters. Robert Owen getting 3 wkts, Richard Pass 2 wkts and
Paul Howells 2 wkts and only conceded 6 runs in his 8 overs.
Simon Parfitt, Wayne Tucker and Dai Howell each getting one wicket.
