With a last minute fixture change Dunvant 2nds ended up playing Seven Sisters away and came away with a win 7-38.

Dunvant 2nds were due to play Pontarddulais in the SD League on Saturday, however due to a last minute cancellation from Bont, which was due to player numbers, the seconds for the second week running were looking at no rugby. Luckily Seven Sisters had experienced the same misfortune with Vardre pulling out of their fixture. Hats off to fixture sec Martin Newbury who reacted quickly and secured the fixture and also the players who rearranged and all got to Seven Sisters in time.

The game was played on the Parks pitch, a short mini bus ride from the Clubhouse! Dunvant struggled to control the game in the first 20 mins with Seven’s pack disrupting and not allowing Dunvant clean ball. This was also emphasised by some poor decision making and handling throughout the Dunvant side. Although as the half went on Dunvant started to become more commanding and tries came from a kick ahead form Scrum Half Thomas Cogram who won the foot race for the touchdown and also a great bit of skill down the blindside by Danni White who put the supporting Prop Lesley Cole in for a 10 yard sprint finish to squeeze in the corner. Neither tries were converted but they had put Dunvant into 10 point lead. Seven Sisters finished the half with a well worked move that cut Dunvant’s midfield defense and gave them a score under the posts. The easy conversion made the half time score 7-10.

Ethan Murphy and Wesley Patrick substituted Scott McGregor and Jonny Jones at half time. The team were looking for more control and to cut out their errors in the second half and this started to come together. Trys came from Huw Samuel who showed great pace to go around his winger and score from halfway and then a powerful run from number 8 Nathan Vaughan saw him score under the posts. Both tries were converted by Dannie White and Dunvant were now in control with the score at 7-24.

Dunvant were keeping the ball through a number of phases and playing much netter rugby. This improvement saw the defense stretched and Tom Gigg finish off a great team try that went through a number of hands before he was released into space. The try was again converted.

The game finished with a cross kick from Danni White that was scooped up by returning Winger Tom Davies and although tackled short Tom stretched out to score in the corner. Danni finished the game with a superb kick from the touch line that made the score 7-38.

Big thanks to Seven Sisters for taking on the fixture so late in the day. This was much needed rugby before next week’s home encounter against Waunarlwydd which is a SD and Ospreys League double header. Your support as always is welcome.
