Dunvant 2nds beat Swansea Uni 17-49

Dunvant traveled the short distance to Swansea University playing fields at Singleton for their first encounter this season in the Swansea and District League. The pitch was in good condition after all the rain this week, however the wind was very strong and blowing directly down the field from the mumbles end.

Dunvant played into the wind first half and showed excellent retention of the ball, with passages of play taking the phases into double figures. This possession awarded Dunvant the first points, with a penalty coming from Dannie White and then a try by number 8 Cory Bennett which was converted. Swansea managed to get some possession and showed they could be dangerous when allowed to have the ball and scored a converted try themselves. Dannie slotted another Penalty before the break and took Dunvant into a 13-7 lead. Dunvant had impressively controlled the ball in the first half and worn down the University’s defense.

Now with the strong wind behind them Dunvant started to turn the screw on Swansea with 2 more tries coming from Cory Bennett and others from Nicolas Maestri and Peter Deutsch. Dannie White was kicking well and added 4 conversions and 1 penalty. Swansea did muster another score and a penalty goal themselves in the second half but the final score finished 17-49 to Dunvant. This was most likely our best display this season with very little handling errors, control of the ball and some great running rugby especially in the final third for the game.
