Dunvant achieve memorable win

Loughor Youth 7 Dunvant Youth 24

A Dunvant side showing both attacking intent and defensive resolve stunned Loughor to cruise into the Swansea & District Cup semi-finals.

Rob Murphy’s side had arrived at Loughor as underdogs in the tie but were bolstered by a spine of experience in the form of man of the match Jacob Hopkins, Jack Cheyney and Myles Matthews.

Despite going behind to a converted try on 13 minutes and missing two early penalty shots, Dunvant responded with 24 unanswered points in the middle hour of the contest.

Dunvant largely dominated a bigger Loughor pack and also kept their backline at bay.

The away side got on the board with a try for Morgan Jones on 18 minutes and with growing confidence followed that up with a try for the impressive Hopkins seven minutes later to give Dunvant a 10-7 half time lead.

A verbal haranguing from their coach failed to spark Loughor into life after the break as Iwan ‘Subo’ Buckley crashed over to score Dunvant’s third try.

And five minutes later Oscar Muxworthy crossed to put the tie beyond Loughor.

Score summary – tries: M Jones, Hopkins, Buckley, Muxworthy; cons: Cheyney (2).
