Dunvant Rugby Football Club are very proud of its connection with the 14th Welsh (Swansea) Battalion, affectionately known as the “Swansea Pals”..

''''' through the two pronged support of the club singers.

In May 2004 on one of it's popular “Cultural and Industrial Tours” the Dunvant Rugby Club Singers visited WW1 graves in Normandy including the recently erected Welsh Memorial at Mametz Wood, where the singers held two minutes silence and sang Welsh Hymns to honour the “Swansea Pals”..

The singers went on to sing at the official “Last Post” at Ypres, where the ceremony was extended due to the popularity of their singing.

In August 2005 the Dunvant Rugby Club singers were honoured to be invited to perform at “The Unveiling of a Plaque in commemoration of the 14th Battalion of the Welsh Regiment” at the Dylan Thomas Centre, Swansea.

The singers took the opportunity and were proud to have their photograph taken with Sir Tasker Watkins, who was awarded a Victoria Cross for his courageous actions in the Mametz Wood hostilities in July 1916.

Sir Tasker Watkins is a past president of the Welsh Rugby Union
of which Dunvant RFC is a member. So the circle is completed.
