Dunvant 2nds lose 22-17 at Penclawdd in a friendly game, the rematch will be played at Broadarce on the Friday 15th March

Dunvant started well with plenty of energy in defense putting pressure on the home side and when having the ball they built phases and made inroads into the Penclawdd half.

It was Dunvant that struck first after Winger Peter Deutsch took a wayward defensive kick just inside the Penclawdd 10 yard line, he beat the first tackler and slipping the ball to Scrum Half Jo Woodward who burst through a gap and then shrugged off a tackle to score under the posts. Outside Half Dannie White slotted the conversion and Dunvant were into a deserved 7 point lead with 20 minutes gone.

Penclawdd started to use their pack and narrowed the game with some up the gut’s rugby that Dunvant struggled to cope with. Dunvant were harshly yellow carded after industrious Prop Toby Marshall fell the wrong side after a tackle. Eventually Penclawdd were on the score sheet with an unconverted try.

Dunvant started to lose their way a little and lost the simple but controlled patterns that served them well in the first 20 mins. Poor hands and decisions gave Penclawdd more of the ball and they score again before half time, this time converted moving them into a 12-7 lead.

During the break Wesley Patrick come on for Scott McGregor. The second half was again frustrating as Dunvant tried to chase the game but failed to take any control with mistakes hampering them being able to build any pressure. Penclawdd Scored again and took a commanding 19-7 lead.

It was credit to Dunvant that they kept battling and looked the more likely to score in the last 20 mins. Eventually they did with Adam Williams-Parry carving through the defense from 20 years out to score under the posts to move Dunvant within a score.

Penclawdd hit back with a Penalty leaving Dunvant now needing 2 scores with 5 minutes left. Dunvant slotted a penalty of their own and were pushing for the final score.

Alan Bevan came on for Aaron Perkins in the closing stages and joined his son and Captain Morgan Bevan in the pack to finish the game. With what seemed another 5 mins on the clock the referee blew, and the game ended 22-17 to Penclawdd.

The two teams meet again in a few weeks on the eve of the six nations deciding weekend - Friday 15th March in Broadacre. Hopefully this will be another tight encounter.
