On Friday night a Swansea Gladiator John Morgan shone brightly scoring a memorable try in the Memorial game for Anthony'Ajax'Thomas raising over £1000

For those spectators fortunate to attend Friday night’s rugby match between the Swansea Gladiators and Dunvant RFC which was used to commemorate the esteemed late ex-player, Anthony ‘Ajax’ Thomas, and raise funds for his family, the puzzle was raised, was Edwards’s brilliant try comparable to the wonderful try scored by the Gladiator’s star man, John Morgan, who was brought on to redeem the situation when Dunvant were in front by a couple of tries.
There was an air of anticipation as John Morgan took his place near to the lineout and soon discovered the ball in his hands, by some manner off the Gladiator’s, and set off like a diminutive hare, towards his own line with no one able to catch him,
Fortunately one of the Gladiator’s coaches in a suit managed to intercept him on his 22 and point him towards the Dunvant team’s try-line, who looked extremely worried.
Sure enough, with quick bursts Morgan avoided the many desperate flying tackles of very big men who missed by inches as he burst through, ran the length of the field and scored a magnificent converted try under the posts.
The Dunvant faithful, and the Gladiator’s supporters and excellent staff who expected no less, roared their appreciation for the great skill displayed. No better try scored at Dunvant this season everyone agreed.
Having shown everyone how it should be done John Morgan left the field in triumph to ringing cheers. Who is this Gareth Edwards anyway? This is how it’s done.
A good sum was raised for ‘Ajax’ who would have surely enjoyed the try, and the affection everyone remembered him with. Thanks to the Vets Team.
Everyone was proud to belong to Dunvant RFC and the Gladiators, for this is what real Rugby Clubs are about. Huge credit also goes to WRU Referee Jason Morris who joined in the spirit of the occasion to allow the Gladiators to show off their talents.
John Morgan is one of the Gladiators who helped to found the Swansea Gladiators team for people with learning difficulties some 25 years ago ,giving them the chance of some meaningful sporting activity in spite of their disabilities.
The Gladiators will be playing a further game at Dunvant’s ground on Saturday 12th November , but their opponents, an Irish touring side have requested that Morgan is not allowed to play because of his superior skills. Eat your heart out, Gareth!

Our compliments to the Gladiator’s players and present and former Staff for a marvellous job. And to the still brilliant Dunvant R.F.C.Vets Team.

Finally, a big thank you to all those attending who donated generously through gate admission, raffle tickets and bucket collections to bring the total raised at Dunvant R.F.C. in memory of Anthony ‘Ajax’ Thomas to over £1000. These funds will be paid shortly to organisers of the Katie Thomas Trust Fund in support of Ajax’s 7 month old baby daughter.
