ARMED FORCES BIKERS RAISE £1600 FOR CHARITY AT DUNVANT R.F.C. CAMP

ARMED FORCES BIKERS RAISE £1600 FOR CHARITY AT DUNVANT R.F.C. CAMP

Roger Knight29 Aug 2017 - 11:29

Members of the Armed Forces Bikers raised £1600 for their charity in a fun camping weekend held at Dunvant RFC from 11th-13th August.

The Armed Forces Bikers (AFB) is a United Kingdom based motorcycle charity which aims to assist former serving members of the armed forces in charitable need as a result of injury or other harmful experience suffered during their service, to resettle and rehabilitate into civilian life, also to relieve the needs of former members of the armed forces and their families. All funds from events go direct to support wounded veterans, the Charity works solely on 100% volunteer effort.
How strange to see tents and motor bikes all over our grounds. For their 5th Annual Boyo’s Bash, the Bikers chose Dunvant RFC as their new venue . As a registered caravan and camping site we offered them ample tent space adjacent to the Clubhouse. Hard standing for up to six camper vans with electric hook ups and male and female showers and toilets. Their own Forces chefs provided daily on site prepared breakfasts for £4 and evening meals for only £5. Entertainment was provided by Phil Elliot on guitar and vocals, the Neath Ukelele Club and Saturday’s headliners were The Charlie Cobwebs. The Bikers paid £20 a head for the weekend event.
In addition to some decent weather they also enjoyed Dunvant Senior Squad playing some scintillating rugby against Aberavon Quins. They enjoyed our selection of real ales in the bar and in addition to raising £1600 during the event for The Armed Forces Bikers Charity they also made a healthy upsurge in our bar takings.
A great weekend was enjoyed by all and we look forward to welcoming the bikers back to Broadacre next summer.
