BROADACRE EXPECTS A STARCH INVASION THIS SATURDAY (8th Sep)

BROADACRE EXPECTS A STARCH INVASION THIS SATURDAY (8th Sep)

Roger Knight6 Sep 2018 - 16:24

Even though Dunvant finished 2nd above the Starch last season they outgunned us on both occasions winning 5-17 at Broadacre and 42-37 at Gowerton

After one league game this season Top placed Dunvant sit above Gowerton only on a slender points difference of +22 to Gowerton’s +12 with Llangennech in between on +14, all three teams have scoring 5 try bonus point wins last weekend.
Last season Dunvant topped the table with 7 straight wins before Gowerton arrived at Broadacre, went passive early on, led 0-6 at half time ,0-16 with seconds to go and Dunvant at last getting on the scoreboard for 7-16. Rules have been changed this season meaning by going passive in a game you can’t replace the player that caused it. This leaves the passive team a man short for the rest of the game but you have to keep an 8 man pack in the scrum.
In a pulsating rematch at Gowerton last February, Dunvant lead 0-14, the Starch fought back to lead 25-17 at half time, Dunvant pressed hard to get back in the lead 35-37 with seconds to go and Gowerton snatched it at the death to win 42-37. It was rumoured that the earthquake that day was caused by the Starch supporters celebrations at doing the double over Dunvant. It should be an absolute thriller and great atmosphere at Broadacre today with both sets of supporters on maximum volume.
Dunvant are missing some key players at the moment but the boys from last year’s Youth team who debuted at the end of last season have really stepped up to the mark, played superbly at Hendy last weekend and are relishing the chance to cement their places in our 1st XV.
Don’t forget you red and green supporters- respect the Referee, respect the players, respect our opponents and enjoy the game, whatever the result. Be Loud-Be Proud

Finally, there will be a one minute silence before the game in memory of ‘Big’ John Watkins who sadly passed away last week, and who was a legend at both Gowerton and then Dunvant Rugby Clubs. R.I.P. John
