The last time our teams met in season 2002/3 there was only 1 point between our teams out of 79 scored with our last match here a 25-25 draw and a Met win 15-14 up there.
Cardiff Met have been quite successful in the Championship since it’s inception as a 14 team league finishing 3rd, 2nd and then 7th twice. This season they are fielding teams on several fronts including the Universities league and are being stretched to field a competitive team on a Saturday. So far this season they are in 9th, had a great start winning their first three games but have since lost four in a row. Interestingly though, in the teams we have played they beat Newcastle Emlyn away 13-20, Skewen at home 27-10 and lost 39-6 at Newbridge and 10-25 at home to Glynneath. So far in their 7 games they have scored 13 tries and have one try bonus point.
Dunvant sank to the bottom of the table at Newcastle Emlyn last weekend, the results are just not quite coming, so near yet so far but we have picked up 3 losing bonus points and 1 try bonus which means we are still in touch with the lower half of the table. We are 6th in terms of points scored (146) and 7th in terms of try count (15) so there is hope our lowly position is only temporary but we do need to win our home games. Dunvant have now lost six games in a row, a statistic not seen since 2008/9. Let’s hope the red and green army are in full song today for this crucial encounter with both sides needing a morale boosting victory.
Don’t forget you red and green supporters- respect the Referee, respect the players, respect our opponents and enjoy the game, whatever the result, wherever you are.
