Half-Time: Gowerton 12 Dunvant 20
On a bright sunny afternoon, Gowerton kicked off and quickly attacked the bottom left hand corner. A well worked try came with the ball being worked from the left side right across to the right hand side to see them go over in the corner, although the conversion was missed. With less than 5 minutes played Dunvant had to replace prop Sam Martin with a facial injury and scrum half Aled Lewis with a leg injury, Callum Llewelyn and Gareth Davies taking their places. Dunvant were penalised on our 10 metre line for coming in at the side and Gowerton chose to kick to the corner for a line out and drive. The ball was thrown to the front for Gowerton to go over again but the try was disallowed as the throw in had not gone 5 metres, but so far it was all Gowerton with their strong pack causing problems. Dunvant made their first foray into Gowerton territory on 10 minutes and after a period of pressure scrum half Gareth Davies kicked a drop goal for 5-3. Then Dunvant attacked again with a terrific break by outside centre Sam Crowley which enabled his centre partner Danny Davies in support to go over for the try. Wing Adam Williams-Parry was wide with the conversion but Dunvant were now in the lead at 5-8. On 18 minutes Adam missed another chance to widen the score with a failed penalty goal attempt. On 23 minutes, Gowerton were awarded a kickable penalty on our 10 metre line but decided to kick to the right hand corner for a 5 metre lineout, catch and drive . The resulting maul drove over , the conversion kicked so Gowerton were back in the lead at 12-8.
With just over 30 minutes played, a fracas developed between the forwards on the half way line and one of Gowerton's players head butted a Dunvant player right in front of the referee to be rewarded with a red card. From the resultant penalty, Dunvant attacked and it looked as if flanker Sam Tucker had scored but was disallowed for a foot in touch. Minutes later, centre Sam Crowley broke through to score under the posts, converted by outside half Richard Lewis for 12-15. Two minutes later Dunvant attacked down the right hand flank for lock forward Tom Falvey to score although Richard’s conversion attempt ,although on target fell just short. Half time score Gowerton 12 Dunvant 20
Dunvant restarted the second half, but it took 15 minutes to get the next score with a terrific break by Captain and Full back Mitchell Ford from our own 10 metre line to score, converted by Ricjard for 12-27 and the all important try bonus point. 5 minutes later centre Sam Crowley broke through again to score ,Richard converting for 12-34. In spite of being a man short, Gowerton were not giving up and were desperately trying to at least get a try bonus point, a feature of many of their games this season ,led by their forwards. On 73 minutes they did score their third try, converted for 19-34 but Dunvant defence remained resolute for the rest of the game so final score Gowerton 19 Dunvant 34.
Elsewhere the other 3 teams still competing for the title all won, Felinfoel and Waunarlwydd keeping the pressure on with 5 points each and Kidwelly 4. As it stands, the maximum points they can get are Felinfoel 82, Kidwelly 84 and Waunarlwydd 78. Dunvant are currently on 74 points with 3 games to play.
