In the awful muddy conditions ,it wasn’t pretty. The ball was heavy and difficult to run and in the first half it was a territorial kicking duel between both sides. Llandeilo inside centre Gareth Augustus missed one penalty but was successful with his second. In reply Dunvant’s Simon Daniel was unsuccessful with three kicks at goal. Llandeilo conceded 2 yellow cards before half time, and Dunvant looked certain to score a try in a 10 minute period of pressure on the try line but knocked on in the first attempt to score and were penalised for crossing in the second. Llandeilo were probably relieved to settle for a half time lead of 3-0.
In the second half, Dunvant put in a really gutsy performance . Another Daniel penalty kick was just short, another penalty was kicked into the corner for a line out which was won, but the ball was knocked on in attempting to cross the line. Another penalty kick to touch resulted in a magnificent drive over by the pack but the ball was deemed to be held up. From the resultant 5 metre scrum the ball went loose, and a great scramble for the loose ball saw outside centre Sam Crowley able to dive on it to score, Simon Daniel converted and with 60 minutes played Dunvant were in the lead 3-7. Dunvant continued to dominate, a 20 metre drive with a rolling maul won a scrum on the 22 , and again in crossing the line we knocked on. Seconds later, a great cross pitch kick from Simon Daniel to left wing Craig Lewis who looked clear for a run in,but unfortunately he knocked on catching the ball. Then yet another try scoring attempt was deemed to be held up. As the match drew to a close, Llandeilo came to life at last, and the last five minutes left Dunvant wondering if we were to be robbed of victory at the death again. To the great relief of the Dunvant supporters, the referee called time and Dunvant celebrated a narrow 3-7 victory when a try bonus point could have been possible if missed chances were taken. Dunvant move up to second place in the table behind unbeaten league leaders Haverfordwest. On a happy note, Dunvant Development also beat Waunarlwydd 8-3 at Broadacre.
