With Dunvant in 3rd place and Seven Sisters in 11th, it shows the fine margins involved and how critical it is to close games out to the final whistle.
Fortunately, we should not be frightened to death before the game, a fate which faced the visiting sides in the 50’s and 60’s’, When touring teams went to play Seven Sisters they would often be given a tour of the Seven Sisters colliery prior to playing a match. It was reputedly common practice that when they were lowered down the shaft, the winding man would deliberately allow the cage to drop like a stone before applying the brake at the last moment. Few touring teams won their matches.
So far this season, Seven Sisters have lost at home to Newcastle Emlyn, Mumbles and Skewen but were victors over Aberystwyth in a 33-27 thriller. Seven Sisters achieved their second victory of the season in their last game with a bonus point win 9-32 at Trebanos, the site of Dunvant’s only defeat so far this season. On the road Dunvant have secured wins at Aberystwyth and Mumbles, and a draw at Newcastle Emlyn. On our last visit to Seven Sisters, albeit with a much depleted team, we were comprehensively beaten 25-0 in the final game of the 2012-13 season. Let’s hope our current form will prevail again this weekend.
