DUNVANT WEATHER THE WIND & HENDY STORM (Apr 27th)

DUNVANT WEATHER THE WIND & HENDY STORM (Apr 27th)

Roger Knight28 Apr 2019 - 11:34

With strong wind in support Yr Hendy led 10-16 at half-time but Dunvant took advantage in the second half to win 29-16

Newly promoted Yr Hendy have had an excellent season to sit in 6th place with the only teams they have not beaten in this campaign being Gorseinon and today’s opponents Dunvant who won 15-37 at Hendy on the first day of the season.
In similar conditions to our last home game v Gorseinon there was a very strong wind blowing down the pitch, this time from the Dunvant end to the Killay end. Yr Hendy kicked off with this wind in support.Within 6 minutes they got first blood with a try by full back Jake Newman, converted by outside half Rhydian Morris for 0-7. Dunvant responded with a try from 10 Adam Williams-Parry returning after the birth of his first baby Jacob but in the strong wind was unable to convert his own try. Dunvant were then forced to defend hard, giving away penalties in the process which saw Hendy stretch their lead to 5-13. Dunvant missed a penalty opportunity but prop Ryan Shoemark scored a pushover try which was again unconverted in the wind to narrow the score to 10-13. The final say of the first half went to another penalty from Rhydian Morris to give Hendy a half time lead of 10-16 .
Now with the wind in support, Dunvant pretty well dominated the second half. Within 4 minutes of the restart hooker Sion Jones supported by his pack scored although it was unconverted and Dunvant were getting the better of the chances. As the game enterered the 4th quarter scrum half Ben Ley scored the bonus point try, converted by Adam for Dunvant to take the lead 22-16 for the first time in the game. Dunvant spirits were lifted and suddenly Adam Williams-Parry found himself in clear open space from half way to run through and score, converting his own try for 29-16 which remained the final score.
Dunvant move from 7th to 5th, but with all other teams having finished except our 2 opponents to come, Gowerton and Kidwelly, Dunvant need 1 win and a minimum 4 points from these 2 games to secure 2nd place for the 2nd consecutive season. In what has been an injury ridden season this would be an excellent achievement by the youngsters who have come in to help out.
Finally, a big mention for prop Robbie Morris who today won his 100 th appearance Cap for Dunvant 1st XV. Congratulations Robbie
