NANT CONWY STUN DUNVANT WITH A FIRST HALF BLITZ (Feb18th)

NANT CONWY STUN DUNVANT WITH A FIRST HALF BLITZ (Feb18th)

Roger Knight18 Feb 2012 - 17:38

Nant Conwy came out all guns blazing to stun Dunvant with a 27-0 1st half lead, Dunvant fought back strongly losing 24-30.

Nant Conwy kicked off with a strong wind in their favour. Dunvant knocked on and from the resultant scrum, Nant Conwy worked the ball out to inside centre Aeron Jones who ran past a bemused Dunvant defence to score under the posts. Outside half Owain Jones kicked the conversion for the Valleymen to take a 7 point lead. With Dunvant unable to get into Nant’s half, with 8 minutes played Nant crossed the try line again, but were disallowed for a foot in touch. They made sure 2 minutes later when from a 5 metre lineout, the forwards mauled over for Eryl Jones to score, Owain Jones converted for 0-14. Still with less than 15 minutes played, Nant were awarded a penalty for offside on Dunvant’s 10 metre line and full back Carwyn ap Myrddin stroked it home for a lead of 17-0. Nant’s supporters were shrieking with excitement at every move whilst Dunvant players and supporters were stunned at the events taking place. Dunvant got another dose of yellow fever and flanker Adam Gregory was sin binned. Just before the bin ended, with Nant again attacking Dunvant’s try line, Dunvant full back Adam Williams turned over the ball, made a great break to get into Nant’s half before Nant turned over the ball for centre Emrys Evans to make a great run under Dunvant’s posts. Owain Jones converted for 0-24. With the half time break due, Dunvant were again pinged for offside, Carwyn ap Myrddin was successful with a 25 metre kick and Dunvant’s miserable half ended with the Valleymen 27 points ahead.
Dunvant’s Coaches must have read the riot act at half time and a Dunvant team we are used to seeing playing exciting rugby at Broadacre appeared as the wind dropped and the sun started shining. From Dunvant’s restart, Dunvant were awarded a penalty and full back Adam Williams scored our first points for 3-27. Nant fought back and their no 8 Carwyn Ellis got over the line but magnificent Dunvant defence saw him held up.Almost immediately, with Nant again attacking our try line, Dunvant lock forward Jaen Botes was yellow carded and Carywn ap Myrddin struck the penalty for 3-30 leaving Dunvant with a mountain to climb. A good opportunity for Dunvant was wasted when a penalty was kicked straight over the dead ball line. With 52 minutes played as Dunvant centre Sam Crowley limped off with an ankle injury, replaced by Rhys Davies, quick thinking from Adam Williams saw him sneak over in the right hand corner for a try, whe he also converted for 10-30. Dunvant were now dominating territory and possession and were camping on Nant’s try line and on the hour mark, scrum half James Richards ran under the posts, Adam Williams converted for 17-30. A huge period of pressure followed from Dunvant with Nant having to constantly defend the attacks on their try line., conceding penalties which many thought deserved yellow cards .With 5 minutes left, Dunvant centre Danny Davies ran under the posts for an easy conversion for Adam Williams to bring the score to 24-30.Unfortunatley, Dunvant were unable to make the final break through and The Valleymen players and supporters were ecstatic at achieving victory at mighty Dunvant and destroying their unbeaten home record this season
