Two-way Kingsway traffic
The traffic on The Kingsway and seven other key roads around it will be switching to two-way this April.
When
Work is due to take place overnight from 10.00pm on Saturday 4 April.
The aim is that you will be able to use the new two-way system from 9.00am the following morning, Sunday 5 April.
What roads will be affected
Roads switching to two-way:
The Kingsway
Orchard Street
Christina Street
Mansel Street
De La Beche Street
Grove Place
Alexandra Road
Belle Vue Way
Cradock Street will change its one-way direction. The junction of Pleasant Street and High Street will be closed, with access from Belle Vue Way via Trinity Place. There is then one-way left turn out onto Orchard Street (westbound).
Road closures and diversions will be publicised and signposted. Traffic marshals will be on duty to help motorists through the work.
Before and for a few days after this two-way switch new tarmac surfaces are being laid on the roads not already resurfaced as part of the scheme. These too will be mainly overnight operations and will involve some local road diversions that will be publicised in advance.
Businesses, public transport operators and residents will be kept up to date on the changes.
