The youth team have made a solid start to the season, with the seasoned 2nd years being joined by the ranks of last years under 16's, a training squad of 28 players who have shown some form of commitment exists, though at times there have been notable absences in preseason training, however a strong core means that all bodes well for the season, the first game of the season was against Burry Port on 22 August, a team that twice last year inflicted 30/40 point defeats on the team, Dunvant went into the game with a strong pack yet missing quite a few backs which meant that players were out of their regular positions with Gareth Banfield at 10 and Sam Martin at 9 filling in at last minute, this did effect the teams fluidity outwide, but both players showed enough to show that in a crisis they were more than capable of filling in, especially as the combinations outside them had not been as worked in training, the match was still a tough opener and Dunvant found themselves 10 nil down at half time due to a converted try and a penalty, however in general our defence was solid and effective, however after the break the team soon found its feet, with Sam Martin ( a hooker by trade) acting as a 9th forward, several deep excursions into Burry Ports half eventually paid dividends with a try by Alistair Hewins, this was followed up within 10 minutes by Sam Martin , with 10 minutes to play there was only team going to win it, however it was at this time that the team showed it didn't have the cutting edge needed in the backs, due to the lack of familiarity and the game faded out into a 10 all draw.
