Dunvant who had given their all on Wednesday against the Uplands, suffered a bit from not being to raise their game twice in 4 days, although we have a growing squad it is tough to raise it again against a much larger and in part older Mumbles team, who had 6 third year youth players in their starting line up, perhaps it was the sight of a much physically larger pack that put Dunvant on the back foot before they even walked on the pitch, because for some reason the spark wasn't there, given that Dunvant never game up and having made 9 changes from Wednesday 1 of them positional it took them a while to get into the game.
Dunvant scored midway through the first half but found themselves 17-3 down at half time, the biggest deficiency in their game is from decision making, this is something that comes from experience and confidence, declining 3 points on offer in a game when you are being physically dominated is not always the best decision, if you keep the scoreboard ticking it always helps, also is the decision to try and run out of troubles, it is always best to kick it down town and set your defence. However on this occassion our defence was also lacking at times, and on virtually every try scoring occassion at least 3 tackles were missed, or were not executed correctly, legs need to be taken and low, at 34-3 midway through the second half, a lot of players looked out on their feet, however yet again Dunvants fitness started to pay dividends, physical size does not mean fitness, and by then Dunvant started to get stronger, and in fact Dunvant dominated the last 15 minutes, and despite camping on Mumbles line time after time, and following successive penalties it did not look to be Dunvants day, however the ref eventually found some cards in his pocket and a yellow card was issued against Mumbles, with 5 minutes to go Matthew Ballantyne who had given his all found a short 2 inch dive to the line, with the conversion added, it still gave Dunvant a chance to run out of defence and almost give soft points away, but they held out. One consolation being that Uplands who were playing Morriston virtually rested their entire pack after Wednesdays game, as they were physically knackered, and those that did play said Dunvant were the most physical side they had played, hopefully this hard workout both physically and mentally will help not only this season but next
