Dunvant Youth defeated Bonymaen Youth for the first time in over 10 years in a tightly fought Cup game at Broadacre to win through to the Semi Finals.

Dunvant entertained Osprey “A” Division high fliers Bonymaen in the quarter finals of the Swansea and District Cup, and they quickly showed why they are thought of so highly by dominating the opening exchanges.
Dunvant were finding it tough to cope with Bonymaen’s massive front five who were providing their backs with good quick ball, and it took some brave and at times desperate defence to stop their free running mid-field from crossing the line.
After surviving this initial onslaught, Dunvant slowly but surely started to put their own quick tempo game together, and now it was their opponents turn to defend, where Dunvant had two penalties which were missed.
The game was now end to end with some ferocious hits coming in from both sides, and with neither team prepared to take a backward step, it was no surprise that the only scores came from the boot with Dunvant’s number 8, Greg Davies, converting two monster penalties to give Dunvant a three point half time advantage.
With no quarter asked or given, the fierce exchanges continued, and it was becoming increasingly obvious that it would take something special to break the deadlock. Midway through the second half such a moment arrived for Dunvant when Scrum Half Jamie Fletcher fielded a kick just outside his twenty two, and with Bonymaen expecting a retaliation kick back, instead chose to put his head back and speed down the touchline, before passing to supporting Toby Davies who beat the one remaining defender to race over from forty metres out. Adam Williams added the conversion.
Bonymaen increased their efforts but were again met by some resolute defence until a brilliant individual run by the Bonymaen outside half cut the deficit although his try went unconverted.
With still ten minutes left on the clock, there was plenty of time for Bonymaen to score again. However, it was the home team’s pack that now was on top and Bonymaen were unable to mount any further threat.
Thus Dunvant had defeated Bonymaen for the first time in a decade after a magnificent team display in a game that was notable for its ferocity and sportsmanship which was evident in abundance by the manner in which Bonymaen gracefully took defeat.
