Youth Keep Noses Ahead Of Opposition

On a bright Saturday afternoon at Broadacre the youth took on Bryncoch in a friendly, both sides opting to play their youngest teams possible in the first half to give first year youth players and opportunity. On the player numbers front Bryncoch took the spoils with a much stronger bench with us the home side only having eighteen players running up to the KIck Off with two of our new starters Charlie Leyshon and Jack Phillips turning up to bolster the squad.

Bryncoch were first on the scoreboard with a well worked try coming out wide on the left with a well worked breakaway, a try that was also converted from out wide 0 - 7.

Dunvant Youth playing well up front powered over with a try from number eight Cory Bennett, this try went unconverted 5 - 7. There was some good attacking rugby being played by both teams and both teams were very evenly matched. Up front proved the difference for us with Cory Bennett crossing for his second try of the match, this time the conversion being slotted home by centre Joe Woodward 12 - 7.

Leading up to half time we played to our strength up front, with some strong driving second row Jason Stagg crossed for Dunvants third try of the match. The try went unconverted - Half time score Dunvant 17 - Bryncoch 14.

Bryncoch bolstered their team on the half and we knew we would have to dig in and weather the storm that we could be facing. During the first half we had lost Zac Devey to injury, leaving us with four substitutes two of whom had only returned to rugby this week following an extended break of over a year.

The boys weathered the attack well with some strong defence and attack coming from both teams, the only score of the second half coming from a breakaway down the centre of the field by Bryncoch that was converted 17 - 14. This was the final score of the game and we can take some positives out of the display given by the team.

Lets carry the positives into the next two weekends where we have league games against Bonymaen away and Vardre home before the Christmas break.
