In the Swansea & District Cup first round we took on Mumbles at home. Hoving played them in the league earlier in the season taking the spoils 8 - 0 on that occasion we knew it was going to be tight.
The opening score of the game came from hooker Ethan Murphy with a try out wide, now our leading try scorer with four for the season. The conversion was pushed wide 5 - 0. Mumbles struck back with a penalty 5 - 3. With some good attacking play from the visitors they crossed for an un-converted try shortly after the penalty 5 - 8. Dunvant continued to press before the half time whistle and were awarded a penalty shot taken by Joe Woodward - Half time score 8 - 8.
In such a close encounter it was important to take any points on offer early in the second half Joe Woodward again taking a successful shot at goal to give Dunvant the lead 11 - 8. With some strong defence and attack from both teams Mumbles were awarded a penalty that levelled the scores 11 - 11, this was turning in to a really tight cup affair.
Being awarded another penalty shot at goal marksman Joe Woodward again gave Dunvant the lead 14 - 11. With some strong attacking play from the visiting backs Mumbles crossed for their second try of the game giving them the lead 14 - 16.
In a nail biting last five minutes Dunvant were awarded a penalty from distance that was again slotted by Joe Woodward to give Dunvant the lead going into the dying minutes of the game 17 - 16 - What a tight encounter!!
In the final minute of the game sadly for us we leaked the final score of the game that game Mumbles a converted try - Final score 17 - 23.
Really good cup encounter with some good rugby played by both teams. We wish Mumbles the best of luck in the next round of the competition.
