The result of our club’s campaign to enrol students from the local village was starting to pay off with no fewer than seven university lads playing. Despite the foul conditions, spectators were treated to a game of no little skill plus the exuberance that a local derby brings. In the first half, Waunarlwydd showed both the class of a premier “A” Osprey team and the obvious unity of playing together, whilst for obvious reasons with six new players, Dunvant took time to settle and had to work hard to contain their opponents to two scores. However, in the second half Dunvant responded with a much improved display and after Danny Davies had burst over under the posts, it was Waun’s turn to have to show plenty of grit to hold off Dunvant’s efforts and regain the Rhodri Jones Cup by the slim margin of five points.
