The youth travelled away to South Gower this weekend knowing that it was going to be a close encounter as the home leg of the league was a close run thing earlier in the season.
The game started well with two quite evenly matched teams, South Gower getting ahead quite early on with an un-converted try - 5 - 0. Dunvant struck back with a try from Scrum Half Owen Williams that was converted by Dannie White. With the game being a close encounter South Gower decided to take a penalty attempt at close range, re-taking the lead 8 - 7.
Next on the scoreboard was Dunvant Outside Half Brandon Wood with a length of the field effort down to his blistering pace, his try was converted by Dannie White 8 - 14 to Dunvant. Dunvant picked up only their second Yellow Card of the season with hooker Danial Rrogers being sent to the bin just before half time. His yellow was closely followed by a yellow for South Gower with both teams down to 14.
The second half started well for Dunvant with another try from Outside half Brandon Wood, converted by Dannie White 8 - 21 to Dunvant. The game then took a turn with Dunvant leaving South Gower back into the running. South Gower were next on the board with two un-converted tries 18 - 21, things getting a little too close for comfort here!! As the game had been so close our next opportunity came in the form of the penalty from the half way line - centre Joe Woodward stepping up to convert a well taken long range effort - 18 24.
What can we say about the last ten minutes???? A hard fought last ten with Dunvant picking up an additional three Yellow Cards!!!! YES - THREE!!! First to the bin was Full Back - Tom Lewis, closely followed by Outside Half Brandon Wood, closely followed by replacement Wing Brandon Coughlin!!! We were down to 12 players and fighting to retain the lead.
The 12 players on the field did us proud and despite the attack mounted by the home team we managed to keep them out for the win.
What can we say about picking up four yellow cards in a game? Up until this game we had picked up only one yellow card all season. Picking up 4 in one game must say something about different officials view and interpret the rules!!!!!
