Having lost to Vardre in a cup final last Tuesday evening we knew we were in for a tough encounter.
With vardre having run out winners last Tuesday 31 - 8 we knew we were in for another hard night!!
The game started with two sides battling well for possession with some end to end stuff and some quite fierce attack and defence. Vardre were first on the scoresheet with two un-converted tries 0 -10. Dunvant striking back with a well taken penalty by Joe Woodward. Half time 3 - 10.
The second half started well for Dunvant with Joe Woodward again on target with two further penalties 9 - 10 before Vardre struck back with a third un-converted try 9 -15.
With some strong driving play from the pack returning from injury Hooker Ethan Murphy crossed for his third try of the season. With the opportunity to take the lead for the first time in the game sadly the conversion went wide of the posts - 14 - 15.
The young Dunvant team began to tire in the last ten minutes. Vardre were rattled for a while with them opting to kick a penalty when next given an opportunity 14 - 18. Dunvant were in the game all the way through and the bays gave a much better account of themselves that they did in the final last week. In the last five minutes Vardre crossed for the final score of the game with a converted try 14 - 25.
Hard fought encounter by both teams. It has been a learning curve this season and the boys involved have given a good account of themselves. Lets now stick together and improve as a squad of youth players with a good number of the under sixteens moving up to join us next season.
Lets have an enjoyable break - Wish the boys the best in their exams and look forward to the challenges of next season!!!!
