We travelled away to last seasons OD winners in the league for the first league match of the season on a day where the rain was relentless. The day did not get off to the best of starts with the opposition advising that they were electing for passive scrums again. At least we were advised prior to arrival I suppose, last season we were advised in the dressing room.
Vardre took the lead in the game with a converted try 7 - 0 in what was quite a scrappy encounter with things going on off the ball. Vardre further extended their lead with a second converted try of the half 14 - 0.
Just before the half time whistle outside half Brandon Wood crossed the line for a try but failed with the conversion hitting the upright - Half Time Score 14 - 5.
The rain was relentless and things were still not going our way, turnovers and the penalty count going the way of the opposition. We need to improve the way that we secure the ball at the breakdown to stop stray boots disrupting or possession.
The next score came from Dunvant with a second try of the game from Outside Half Brandon Wood, with his ankle giving him a few problems the successful conversion was taken by Joe Woodward 14 - 12. The remainder of the second half was a close affair with only one further score coming from a converted try for the home team Final Score 21 - 12.
This is a game we could have won. Things to work on for the next game - Securing our ball at the breakdown and tackling the opponents lower as we seemed to be tackling high especially during the first half.
First year debutants in this match were Sean Tanner and Aled Williams.
