Youth Take the Spoils in Local League Derby

This fixture was on Ospreys league fixture that had been scheduled to be played at Loughor. Because of logistics with their first team at home the fixture was reversed to be played at Dunvant.

The game commenced with both sides evenly matched with good defence and attack from both teams, when Loughor were given the opportunity they elected to take a penalty shot at goal taking the lead 0 - 3.

Dunvant put some good passages of play together and second row Morgan Bevan got in in the corner for a try that was converted by centre Joe Woodward 7 - 3. Loughor responding shortly after with a penalty shot at goal 7 - 6

Just before half time centre Chris Hughes made an exciting break cutting through the Loughor defence only to be taken out with a high tackle that resulted in a painful shoulder dislocation - we all wish him a speedy recovery. Dunvant extended their lead on the half time whistle with a penalty from Joe Woodward 10 - 6.

The second half again started as a tight affair with Loughor opting for their third penalty attempt to narrow the score to 10 - 9, this was getting a little to close for comfort and the next score could have come from either team. It looked as full back Tom Lewis had crossed for a try out wide but was denied with the touch judges flag.

Dunvant continued to press the Loughor defence with some good forward play pressing the Loughor try line, we came really close to scoring on a number of occasions. Eventually with some strong forward play hooker Ethan Murphy got over out wide for a try that was converted by Joe Woodward 17 - 9.

In the last five minutes of the game many exciting attacking phases of play were put together, eventually Dunvant making a break resulting in Joe Woodward crossing for a try under the sticks that was converted by full back Tom Lewis. This final score giving Dunvant a winning bonus point and denying Loughor a losing point.

Next weeks game is scheduled to be a Swansea & District Cup match at home against Mumbles - Lets hope we can keep the level of performance and momentum going.
