In a tightly fought contest at home in the league we fell short of the mark on this occasion!
The game started positively with a well worked try coming from number eight Cory Bennett to give Dunvant the lead with an un-converted try 5 - 0. With some good attack and defence from both teams Uplands opted to take their penalty attempt to goal 5 - 3. Dunvant pressed hard for the line with a number of penalty opportunities being given to us. We were unable to cross the white wash to make the pressure tell, this proved to be our downfall. When things don't go our way we need to come away with points, Uplands knew it was a tight affair and opted for goal kicks, something we also need to consider in close league matches.
The score at the break remained 5 - 3.
At the commencement of the second half Uplands opted for a penalty shot at goal taking the lead 5 - 6. They continued to boss the game for a period making the pressure tell with one un-converted try 5 - 11 followed by a converted effort 5 - 18. In the last ten minutes we started to put some plays together with a try coming from blind side Ryan Parry converted by Joe Woodward 12 - 18. Going into the last seven minutes of the game a penalty was awarded to Uplands, taking the opportunity to kick at goal they extended the lead to 12 - 21.
Dunvant required two scores in the final five minutes of the game, we opted for a kick at goal to bring the score to 15 - 21. We continued to put pressure on the Uplands line in the final minutes but failed to capitalise!! Final Score 15 - 21.
Today showed that in a close encounter you need to take points when they are available. Had we taken our scoring opportunities in the first half the final result could have been different.
