Dunvant Youth took on Vardre Youth at Home this weekend, having lost to the visitors away earlier in the season we knew it was going to be a tight encounter. (Especially with them having posted a 58 - 14 win on their last outing against South Gower).
The first half was a close run thing with end to end rugby and strong defences being put in place by both teams. Going into the final ten minutes of the half it was still stalemate 0 - 0. Given a penalty opportunity in the thirty first minute Joe Woodward gave Dunvant the lead going into the half time break - 3 - 0.
The second half started off much as the first, tight plays with neither team wanting to give anything away. The Dunvant pack started to get on top with some strong driving plays that the opposition could not withstand. In the sixteenth minute of the half second row Morgan Bevan drove over for what was to be the only try of the game. The try was converted by the ever consistent Joe Woodward to give Dunvant an 10 - 0 lead with twenty minutes to go.
In such an evenly contested game Dunvant opted for a second penalty of the afternoon for Joe Woodward, this gave Dunvant a 13 - 0 lead with five minutes to go. This was to be the final score of the match with Dunvant running out winners 13 - 0 taking a valuable winning bonus point in the process.
