We travelled away to the Uplands in a top of the league clash and knew it was going to be a tough encounter, missing a few players also didn't help our cause.
Dunvant in the first fifteen minutes should have come away with a score having hammered the Uplands line for what seemed an eternity, credit to the Uplands defence it held strong and kept us out! It was at this point that number 8 Cory Bennett picked up a nasty injury that ended his part in the game. We all wish Cory a speedy recovery.
Having hammered the Uplands line without any return it was the opposition that were first on the board with an unconverted try on twenty minutes 5 - 0. The tides appeared to have turned and it was Uplands that were now exerting all the pressure, crossing for their second unconverted try of the match on the half hour 10 - 0. Dunvant went into the half time break 10 - 0 down.
The second half started positively for Dunvant with the Dunvant forwards appearing to get the upper hand on the opponents. Some strong driving play from the Dunvant pack resulted in loose head prop Charlie Leyshon crossing for his first try of the season 10 - 5. This game was turning into a tightly fought local derby with neither side giving much away, strong defence being deployed by both teams. GIven an opportunity of a penalty in the second half Uplands opted for a successful kick at goal 13 - 5.
With twelve minutes to go Dunvant were awarded a penalty and opted to take the points with a penalty from full back Tom Lewis 13 - 8.
The last five minutes was all Dunvant, again trying to get over the Uplands line with strong forward plays. Had we managed to cross the white wash we could have taken the game in the final minutes. Credit to Uplands the defence held strong and we failed to capitalise. Final score - Uplands 13 - 8 Dunvant.
The performance was a dogged one and had we had our kicking boots on we would have taken this game. Thanks to Ollie Winchester stepping up from the Under 16's to take his place in the centre for his Youth debut, best wishes to Cory Bennett from everyone involved with the Youth for a speedy recovery.
