Dunvant Youth started the game strongly with the first try of the match coming from number eight Cory Bennett scoring his first of the season in the third minute 0 -5.
Having started strongly we seemed to then seemed to go off the boil for some time. With the game still being tight Vardre opted for a shot at goal in the twenty first minute to claw back three points 3 - 5. This seemed to be the warning shot that got us back into the action and playing as we know we should. Second row Jack Phillips was next on the scoresheet for his fourth try of the season, converted by Joe Woodward 3 - 12.
Vardre continued to battle hard, on the stroke of half time Dunvant scrum half Zac Devey crossed out wide for his second try of the season. Half Time score 3 - 17.
We were a quarter of an hour into the second half before registering the next score of the match through loose head prop Charlie Leyshon crossing for his third of the season, Joe Woodward adding the conversion on this occasion 3 - 24. With some strong forward play Dunvant were again next on the scoresheet with another of the front row union Connor Phillips crossing for his first of the season, again converted by Joe Woodward - 3 - 31.
Connor's try ably converted by Joe Woodward proved to be our final score of the match with Vardre finishing stronger. Vardre came back with a converted try 10 - 31, followed by a second that went un-converted 15 - 31.
We must ensure that we put these games out of sight and stop the opposition from scoring, Vardre's two consolation scores came in the last ten minutes when we switched off! Credit to a young Vardre side who showed that they were not prepared to throw the towel in.
We look forward to the return fixture later in the season.
Dunvant Youth players and coaches wish Sean Tanner a speedy recovery from the knee injury that forced him to leave the field in the second half.
