Youth Take Seventh Bonus Point Win Of The Season

On a dark wet afternoon at Dunvant the youth took on a Vardre team that we had the better of away earlier in the season 15 - 31, with the poor conditions we knew it was going to be a tough encounter against a spirited young Vardre side.

The penalty count against us in the first ten minutes was huge, Vardre opting for a few missed penalty shots at goal. Dunvant eventually got on the scoresheet first with a try from Outside Half Joe Packer, converted by Scum Half Zac Devey 7 - 0. With Vardre putting a lot of pressure on our line our defence held strong and we denied them numerous scoring opportunities. Not being able to cross our line on the twenty second minute of the first half Vardre opted for another shot at goal, this time it was successful 7 - 3. This remained the score until the half time break.

At the half time break Dunvant made a a few substitutions and we were underway again. A strong run from Centre Joe Woodward saw him cross for a try out wide in the third minute of the second half, Zac Devey falling short with the conversion attempt on this occasion 12 - 3. With the game still not opening up and Vardre mounting attacks against our strong defence they opted for another shot at goal on the tenth minute of the second half 12 - 6.

For the remainder of the game Dunvant turned the screw with some strong attacking play. Rhys Barrow was denied a scoring opportunity on the eleventh minute with the referee deeming that he had been held up, from the next passage of play leading try scorer Jack Phillips crashed over for his seventh of the season converted by Zac Devey 19 - 6.

Twenty four minutes into the half saw replacement prop Charlie Leyshon crash over (almost taking the posts with him!) for his fifth try of the season (having had a ten minute rest in the BIN!!) converted by Zac Devey 26 - 6. A couple of minutes later saw man of the match Jacob Hopkins romp in for a superb score, having only just returned from a long term injury he is showing that he is going to be a real asset for the remainder of the season. Jacob's score was converted by Zac Devey - 33 - 6.

Next week sees us take on South Gower away in the league, lets keep the momentum and the bonus points going to set up a league winner takes all finale against Loughor at the end of the season.
