Youth take win against Mumbles to make it nine wins out of ten in the league

With many games having fallen foul of the weather this week the Youth were fortunate that the University field was deemed playable on Saturday morning, this was the benefit of not making the call on the game the day before.

On a bitterly cold afternoon the youth took the field against third placed in the league Mumbles youth. Having only lost two games themselves this season one against Loughor and one against us earlier in the season, we knew it was going to be a tough encounter.

We had to call on the Youth Squad to rally around for this encounter, with a number of injuries and unavailabilities hitting the squad we were going to be testing our strength in depth for this one.

The game started well for us with a try coming from some strong forward play in the eighth minute of the match from openside Cameron Howells Ripley, leading up to this loose head prop forward Luke Radford in his seventh appearance of the season clearing out well at the breakdown to assist in the creation of the try. The try converted by scrum half Zac Devey 0 - 7.

With the gusty wind and cold!!! both teams battled the elements with no score coming for the remainder of the first half. There were opportunities for us but the Mumbles defence held strong throughout. On the half time whistle we opted for a shot at goal just pushing it wide of the mark - Half TIme - 0 - 7.

The freezing cold rain was with us for most of the second half that assisted nobody! Early doors in the second half Mumbles opted for a successful shot at goal in the second minute of the half 3 - 7. Considering the conditions both teams tried to create scoring opportunities with both teams coming close on a number of occasions, our defence out wide was stretched on a number of occasions but we managed to keep the opposition out!

With a change in position for centre Joe Woodward who had moved to outside half to cover the injury to Jack Cheyney, he raced through the Mumbles defence to cross out wide in the thirty second minute of the half. With the strong wind playing havoc with the ball on the tee we failed to capitalise on the conversion - 3 - 12.

There was a stand out display from tight head prop Leslie Cole who gained his second man of the match award for the season, scrummaging well and showing up well in the loose - Well done Leslie!!! Keep it up.

Final score 3 - 12.

We have a few tough encounters on the horizon so lets keep the numbers up in training and finish the season off well a united squad who support and push each other.
